From 8-year old Hilda Firestone’s diary:

I love Friday because it is only one day away from Saturday, and I love Saturday because there is dancing school and I can see Victor. Victor is so beautiful, and I love him. He looks like Little Lord Fauntleroy, only not such a sissy. Victor has real hair, not a wig, and not curled, but he has a black velvet suit with a starched linen sailor collar instead of a lace one. He looks so elegant. He doesn’t know that I love him. If he did maybe he would dance with me. So far he hasn’t, but it doesn’t make any difference, I love him just the same. Every Saturday night, when I am in bed, I like to think of Victor in his velvet suit and I like to pretend that we are walking in a meadow of pink and blue flowers, and he is crying and I am kissing him and telling him not to cry and I am holding his hand.
